The 5th Annual GRCA Chilly Chili Cook-off has come to a close. We had a perfect day at Tuxedo Park for tasting chili! Fifteen hopeful chili cookers turned out to serve up some tasty chili concoctions. From bison to venison, we had a flavor for everyone. But, in the end, the chicken took the top prize. Doreen Blue and Kay Shurtleft took home the first place prize of $300.00 with their Top of the Grade Chicken chili. It was no “surprise” when Ken Saine, a legacy chili cooker, took the $200.00 second place with Dancing Kettle Surprise. And newcomer, Gavin McCutcheons placed third with his Smoldering Sorghum Chili and took home a smokin’ $100.00. The coveted Community favorite went to 9 year old Wyatt Beddingfield with his special The Buck Stops Here chili. This kid is one to watch! All in all it was a great day for the community. A special thank you to all that made this event happen: the organizers, ticket sellers, cookers, tasters, music makers and judges. Save the date for next year 2018- As always the 1st Saturday in March at Tuxedo Park. Until then, stay on the lookout for more events and happenings from the Green River Community Association.
