Our 3rd Annual Chilly Chili Cook-off hosted by the Green River Community Association was held March 7th 2015 in the new Tuxedo Park.   A large crowd of chili tasters came out to enjoy the beautiful day and sample homemade chili’s from 18 different cookers.  DJ Sargent Rock enhanced the party like mood with his lively music.  A slice of pie from the Pies for the Park booth, a cup of coffee and a chit-chat with your neighbors rounded out the day.

The panel of three celebrity chili judges, Chef Bruce Brown, Chef Jennifer Salkewicz, and Ricardo LeComte expertly tasted and scored all eighteen chili’s. When the scores were tallied, Chuck Pannell and his Sugar Pig chili, took home the first Place prize for best chili. Randall Chet with his Veni-Vidi-Vici Venison Chili took second place and Ken Saine’s Pop’s Sally Maru rounded out third place.  The community favorite was a newcomer from SC, Red with his Kick Back Cove Chili.

The GRCA conducted a raffle for a $25 gift card from Walmart.  The raffle winner was Red from SC. The Association also collected money for a bench in memory of Joe Boyd to be placed in the park.  Joe was a longtime Green River citizen who passed away February 27, 2015.

The GRCA would like to thank all the sponsors who helped generously with the event.  Walmart, O’Charley’s, Sam’s, Green River Library, Roscoe’s, and Henderson County Parks and Recreation. Also, the Henderson County Visitor’s Information Center who supplied grant money for advertising this event.
